PMBOK Changes

Changes to the PMBOK 6th Edition

The Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK) is widely recognized as the leading resource on Project Management. The PMBOK is published by the Project Management Institute. PMI's PMP certification is based on the PMBOK. A new version of PMBOK is published every four years. The Sixth Edition of PMBOK is available now.

The formal scope statement of PMBOK Guide - Sixth Edition states "Any necessary work [has been undertaken] to make the standard more accurate, up to date, relevant, clear, concise, and easy to understand and implement. This may include the re-organization of content, additional content, refinement of content, or deletion of content."

Here is a summary of the changes to the new book:

                        • Stakeholder Management is now the 10th knowledge area
                        • Processes have increased from 47 to 49 processes
                        • 24 of the 49 processes are now in the planning process group /li>
                        • Quality Management has undergone a significant upgrade and is now using a number of the tools contained in the Six Sigma toolkit
                        • Iterative and adaptive planning (e.g. scrum and other agile methodologies) have now been institutionalized by PMI as part of the project management process
                        • Every knowledge area now has an associated management plan
